Recs: Curtain Fic!

Okay, so. I have no excuse to offer for this, but I love curtain fic. And it just so happens that I've read three beautiful curtain fics on a similar theme lately, and I wanted to pass them on. Thus, this post.

Stumbling Along by [livejournal.com profile] lifting_latches. Sam/Dean, with Sam/Dean/Castiel heavily implied, although the fic is PG-rated with no on-screen sex. I love [livejournal.com profile] lifting_latches' work; she captures the Sam/Dean/Castiel dynamic in a beautifully balanced and believable way. If you haven't read Like Unto Him (Sam/Dean/Castiel, R) then please, run, do not walk. Anyway, this particular fic is a [livejournal.com profile] silverbullets fill - that comm really was an excellent idea - and consequently is schmoopy, but in a way that is at once sharp and observant and gorgeous. The little details in the writing really make the fic. Great Sam voice and lovely hurt!Dean who is nevertheless not woobie!Dean, and Cas makes me ache in this one. The characterisation is spot on.

Veterans' Day by [livejournal.com profile] lexhibition. Sam/Dean/Cas, Adult. This author wrote the first Sam/Dean/Cas (ish) fic I ever read, so, you know. LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO ME, [livejournal.com profile] lexhibition! This fic looks as if it's going to be undiluted domestic schmoop, but there's an awesome little twist in there that's just the cherry on top.

Ain't Looking Back On The Seeds I've Sown, by [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory. Heavily implied Sam/Dean/Cas, although this fic could effectively be read as gen. The Sam-Castiel bonding in this fic really works for me. I've heard people mention before that, with S/D/C, you need to make sure you have enough Sam/Cas in there and then everything else will fall into place, and that's definitely true here. I wish Show would give me more showing and less telling about Sam and Castiel's relationship, but in the meantime we have fic like this to do it for us. :) Also, bonus grumpy Dean. ♥
