I don't mind them being separated -- if we actually get to see Sam rescue Dean this time that could be great -- what bothers me is that that was one hundred percent completely sterile of emotion. Dean and Sam had no interactions with each other that they couldn't just as well have had with Garth. It was zero intimacy. If next season doesn't bring back the emotion, I'm out of here.

I know. And that's been the problem this whole season -- I don't know how they got here from 702 when I was really feeling it. Sigh.

I like to think that Sam might not know he's in Real Life, and that's why his emotions this season have been a little batty.

I want you to write all the fic of this.

Seriously, Obi Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope. I want emo messed up Sam and Dean fic with ALL THE FEELS. I want it with slightly crazy Sam. And sex. And I know it doesn't fit your current verse, but I kind of want Sam to bottom.

NOT THAT I AM DEMANDING OR ANYTHING. JUST GO BE MY FIC SLAVE.

[identity profile] checkthemargins.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't you worry. I am already on it. Plots forming in my brainz already. And I can get Sam to bottom, totes. I'm all over that. I can even do it kind of angstily, which is my thing.

In fact, Sam might get pretty effed up in order to tear open Purgatory by brute force and get his brother back. He'll need lots of bandaids.

You know, I think Sam's hell issue is coming back, 'cause his stone number one is no where to be found!

[identity profile] de-nugis.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love to think that (though it would make more sense in some ways if it were because Cas is inaccessible so whatever he did snaps back), but I really don't think they'll bring back hell trauma Sam. or alcoholic/suicidal Dean. Those were Gamble's, and they were out when she was out. We might get Carver style crazy-to-rescue-Dean Sam, though, and he's also a good thing.

But they've been downplaying blatant Sam and Dean emotion so hard that I find bringing back stone one utterly unimaginable at this point.

what? so the show runners ship cas/dean instead of Sam/Dean? As my boy is so fond of saying lately, 'who ordered a poopoo platter?'

[identity profile] de-nugis.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that -- it wasn't like the Cas/Dean was particularly emo, either. The vibe I'm getting is more that the show is backing away for the moment from the whole relationship melodrama for anyone, and going into more of an action mode. Carver might well change that up.

[identity profile] fourtenpm.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
They don't have the budget for action! Unless they got more from the network? And they are gonna do frigging MotW in frigging purgatory?

Man, I am all nerves, I wanna laugh for no reason, and I wanna smash things. I am getting into the conspiracy theory too!

SUPERNATURAL IS STUPID!

[identity profile] quickreaver.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I totally get you, here. I'll keep watching, but man. They've gotta bring back character growth and some damn connection.

[identity profile] de-nugis.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think they're in a holding pattern on character and emotion arcs in the interregnum between showrunners. Which in a backwards way gives me hope, because I liked the Gamble era and I like Carver's eps, I just feel like they've ended up with a gap between them. And the plot set up is rife with emotion, so it's not like people can't write ALL THE FIC.

[identity profile] quickreaver.livejournal.com 2012-05-19 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you're right. I don't think Gamble did a bad job, per se, but I think she might've felt a little like she was corralling cats, and didn't have the reins held tightly enough. I highly recommend this podcast (it's a quicky, but it explores why cathartic horror is so impactful and satisfying: http://www.writingexcuses.com/2012/05/13/writing-excuses-7-20-cathartic-horror?) I also think it nails what do many of last year's eps fell flat, emotionally. They were too worried about plot and the MotW, and forgot WHY we watch the show.
