Has anyone come across any fic where Amelia is a figment of Sam's imagination/a dissociative personality/a manifestation of Lucifer/otherwise not real?

Hee! If only my writing mojo were to return reliably... It's interesting to think about why Sam's subconscious would make up a bossy, broken woman who doesn't actually treat him very nicely and more as a distracting lay than anything else.

Absolutely. Like, if Sam actually could not cope mentally any more, and his brain created a character just to keep itself going, why this person? It's somehow typically Sam.

So very, very Sam. Like, even his artificial constructs of relationships are somehow artfully designed to subtly punish him. Oh, Sammy.

She could've been really the vet, and really been mean when they met over the dog, and it's just their further interactions that have been in his mind. Like, the seed for the nastiness was planted by the first meeting, and he's extrapolating from there.

Ooh! This is all very The Machinist.

It's very Sam to pick up on something that will punish him. Suppressed guilt over not looking for Dean, among other things.

I really like this theory (which I hadn't heard before). I will be sad if it's not true.

I have read this exact thing. But where!? I'll try and remember.
