Happy New Year, flist! :)
Total word count for the year: ~353,000 words of fic; 50k of NaNo. And then I stopped. <.< >.>
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Um, exponentially more. I'm kind of terrified by that number I just calculated.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Here on this LJ, for the most part; some, mostly the challenge fics and the collaborations, are also on AO3.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2011?
I must say the RoboSam/Sam sort of took me by surprise, as did that Sam/Dean/Jess and the JDM/Adrianne.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
This is a tough question, which is a good thing, I suppose. It's either Thrones, Dominations (Mishalecki minibang); Everything's Bigger in Texas (my Mishaleckipalooza fic); or And the touch of your lips, it's a shock not a kiss, which I wrote for the second round of
salt_burn_porn this year.
Now, what's your most popular story?
I think it's actually Sure To Lure Someone Bad, the J2 knotting fic I wrote with
mistyzeo. Most popular non-collabs are probably Our Bodies, Possessed By Light and, weirdly, trusting who we are, my tiny piece of Winchester gencest for
silver_bullets.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I decided I was going to write anything I damn well wanted to this year. I learned from this that you should probably always do that.
Challenges: I think I signed up for ALL THE THINGS this year. I did
salt_burn_porn twice,
spnspringfling,
spn_j2_xmas,
spn_j2_bigbang,
deancasbigbang,
rpf_big_bang,
sassy_minibang...I think I'm still missing some. I managed all of them except
spn_50states. Oops.
From my past year of writing, what was...
Best story
Talking 'best' rather than 'favourite', I think my best story of the year is actually nancy wore green stockings, which I wrote for Novakfest (...and there's another challenge...) or, possibly, my two sociopath!Dean/prison chaplain!Castiel fics.
Most under-appreciated by the universe
I want to mention a challenge fic I posted in December but it is still anon, so, I'll leave that and say Scholars and Amazons. I know, I know, it was never going to get much appreciation because it was a rendering of Swiss Family Robinson with Winchesters. And also, basically everyone was a girl because I wasn't allowed to write incest for that particular challenge, which shall remain unnamed. But it had pirates and I liked it, despite my ongoing bitterness.
Most fun
I had a lot of fun writing fic this year. All the collabs I did were massively entertaining, as was The Moon Is New, which was almost a collab anyway, even though I did all the actual writing. But again, I think the Mishalecki fics win out in the fun stakes.
Most disappointing
Antifreeze. Fandom seemed to like it well enough, but...eh. Must do better.
Story that could have been better
See above! But I don't think I ever post a story without sitting around afterwards thinking it could have been better, so, you know.
Story that changed your own perception of the characters
I actually can't think of an answer for this one. I think my perception of characters is more usually altered by what I read than by what I write.
Most sexy
And we're back to my favourites! Everything's Bigger in Texas or And the touch of your lips, it's a shock not a kiss.
Story with the sweetest moment
Ha, probably my
spn_j2_xmas fic, And The Kiss Comes Free. It is a pile o'schmoop.
Story that made you cry
None this year.
Hardest to write
Lacuna. I owed it to
light_like for months after she bid on me in a charity auction. It just would not obey me.
Easiest to write
Both my
salt_burn_porn fics were joyfully easy to write. Also A Strong Confederate.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
Uhhhhh. I can't tell any more. Probably my father moved through dooms of feel.
Most eye roll-worthy title
All of them? ;) Maybe We've Got Spirit.
Most unintentionally telling
Unintentionally? Probably (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave. It's Dean/Castiel! Featuring...Sam's dick? Why am I talking about Sam's dick? SAM'S DICK.
Most overdue
Lacuna again.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most
I think this year's theme was SIGN UP FOR ALL THE THINGS. Also, porn. And Jared. And porn with Jared in it.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
- finish my goddamn NaNo. I have it all planned out and everything; it's about 51k or so and I could probably finish it in another ~15k.
- sign up for fewer things in the hope that it will result in me writing more of the stuff I want to write, but without the pressure. But in practice this doesn't always work, so, I dunno.
- I definitely want to do
spn_j2_bigbang again, at least, but I will probably be spending a large chunk of 2012 finishing my PhD, so. :)

Date: 2012-01-06 06:29 pm (UTC)Besides Lacuna which I am clearly going to be biased about, I think my favorite thing you wrote this year was definitely Everything's Bigger in Texas. It's feel good porn and was exactly the kind of Mishalecki fic I was craving and I reread it probably more than anything else. Made me smile to see that on your favorite list. XD
Anyway, congrats on that word count, holy crap lady! You're amazing!
